i'm in love...

so, after nearly a year of parts buying and rebuying, frame trades and lack of funds, i leave the lbs $110 bucks lighter, but with the wheels to my first fixie. get home, tube explodes. back to lbs for another. after about thirty minutes of struggling, it's all put together and i go for my first fixed ride. can't get into clips, fall over. try again, and i'm off. i look down and see the street flying beneath my wheels. i let my legs go limp, forgetting i can't coast. i slow my cadence just in time for the stop sign and right turn. i get on colley ave., break into a sprint, and just when i start thinking, 'i don't need to go this fast right now', bike fixes everything by throwing the chain. i fred flintstone it onto the sidewalk, catch my breath, and think, 'damn, that was fun'. the bike needs some fine tuning, but you couldn't knock the smile off my face with a shovel...

update: switched from a 50 to a 46 front ring, swapped seat out (and shoved it forward), raised bars a bit. need a new, better quality cog. didn't throw chain yet, but it still feels a little slack. need to learn how to skid.

function is the key.

cold, wet, miserable day. last week suckered me into not taking a decent jacket with me when i started moving, and since i haven't actually finished moving yet (and probably won't for a couple of weeks), i'm stuck in the ass-end of winter with just a thin hoodie and a tracksuit jacket. baka. otherwise, i'm super, thanks for asking! that was sarcasm, by the way. not that anyone's actually reading this.

the apartment's going remarkably well, considering. brendan's cool and troy (the other roommate) is practically invisible. hell, i see brendan's girlfriend more than i see my other roommate. which is cool by me, noelle's a nice kid.

danielle found me on myspace this weekend, which was pretty damn cool. i love that one so very much. wish i had the stones to tell her that. maybe she'll be back in va sometime, that'd be keen.

anyway, whatever, i'm done.

i need you around...

(that title has nothing to do with anything 'cept for the fact that the song's playing right now...)

so anyway, a few interesting things have happened lately... first off, my mother's selling her house, forcing me to get off my ass and find a place to live. fortunately, one of my friends needed a roommate, so i got that covered pretty quickly, thank fortuna. i decided against the non-roommate setup for the sake of saving a few bucks. secondly, thanks to vince moore from the oldskooltrack.com yahoo group, i'm now the proud owner of a sweet 90's vintage cannondale track bike. the goal is to get it built up with a full suntour superbe pro track group, then put in an order for one of jon kendziera's track frames and do a parts swap when i get that for the full oldskool goodness. thirdly, i scored big on the literature front last week: dante's "inferno", william burroughs jr's autobiography, "the dubliners", camus' "the plague", a collection of bunuel scripts and a few other goodies... so i'm all set for march's reading. heh. i think i'm gonna go impress rachel with the news of all the new readage. oh, and i'm currently negotiating w/ the momster for my grandfather's gorgeous glass-front bookcase to house my library.

non-rantage

for once, i'm actually not gonna bitch and moan about how much it sucks. it's been a pretty good week. first, i finally get an apartment without roommates. fuckin brilliant. now, i find out the pixies are touring again, and i'm getting a really sweet cannondale track frame... things are going good. too good... i feel like i might get hit by a car or something soon. there's a dark lining in every silver cloud somewhere...

o/t story: the other night, after i got off work, i was sitting at a table having my shift drink (or maybe my second drink, i disremember). but anyway, some stranger comes up to me and offers me a shot. i normally try to stay away from alcohol, but this time, i had a Bukowski novel right in front of me. so i drank up. it was pretty foul, but i like to think that ol' Chuck would've been proud. actually, he prolly would have scammed the guy for a few more, but i digress...

happy new year. now fuckin' die.

okay, maybe not _quite_ that extreme. i'm gonna acually try to write in this thing on a regular basis for a while to see how it sticks. anyway, it's snowing. and i hate winter. it's really pretty and all, the snow, but it's just too goddam cold. if it were possible to have snow in 80-degree weather, i'd be down for that. winter sucks.

i have to figure out how to get that gorgeous bjork-lookalike on nerve.com to notice me. i'm actually going to spend another credit in that attempt. ah well, i got plenty of credits and not enough interesting women to spend 'em on, i guess...

speaking of cute girls, kyou wa rae-chan no tanjoubi. i suppose i should get her something, maybe...

livin' the life, muthafucka...

so, all hallow's eve came and went without incident... just the usual rocknroll, too much alcohol, kissing strange girls and puking behind dumpsters... 'ka-chan gets home today, so no more $20 cab rides from work... that shit's a killer...

current project: bike almost done. lots of riding ahead. still need a new job, and a new city to live in. falling in love would be nice.
